HTC Touch wirelessnorthWhen it comes to touch screen mobiles, the name that often pops to mind is probably a certain Apple device. But, and as may have heard mentioned, the iPhone is not available in Canada. However, it the world of sleek touchscreens, the iPhone is not the only game in town. Among others, HTC has been quietly innovating ever more interesting touch phones based on the Windows Mobile platform.

All the big Canadian operators are carrying the HTC now, and offering some interesting deals as well. See: HTC Touch now “free” from Bell and Telus for example. So is this thing any good? Nothing but a poor cousin to the iPhone – or – great device that can stand on it’s own? we asked two wirelessnorth contributors to give us each their side of the story. The Conclusion? seems to be that it depends what you use it for…

    Sadly this seems to be another sad attempt to offer Canadian wireless subscribers an i-Phone clone, as if Canadians are so naieve that they don’t know the iphone exists.

    Previous reports pointed to a quote from Ted Rogers stating that he doesn’t want the i-Phone in Canada as then he would have to lower his data rates to suit the more non-business customer. Data prices are pretty pricet at the moment with business customers paying well over 100$ a month. I can’t see Rogers bringing unlimited data plans in for 50$ a month to suit the everyday customer. It simply will never happen.

    I’m on my way to return the HTC touch for the second time this week. This time for good. What a useless device. Freezes all the time. Receives about 1 in 5 calls , and would only start it’s first ring when the caller is already hearing the 5th ring ( and usually hangs up). What a piece of junk! I was hoping for something to help me organize a little bit , but got something that just took more of my time and was extremely aggravating . DO NOT GET THIS PHONE.
