Oh how I wish it were true but after reading this article I found a few weeks ago have my doubts. Just in case the link dies it is Rogers saying that they have no plans or desire to offer unlimited data plans anytime soon.

Good catch I didn’t see that. 1GB is a reasonably good allotment at least. At EDGE speeds it would take a bit effort to rack up that much over the air in a month. 3G would be a different story though.

Ireland is getting the iPhone, but no unlimited data plan. I think this may have just set a bad precedent that the Canadian carrier(s) will likely want to follow.

I hope that this does happen so that we Canadians can finally get reasonable data plans that do not lock us in to using the provider’s basic browsing interface.

Of course, I bet about 8 weeks after this is announced, Apple will release the Apple Phone 2.0. :)
