fitcmobile Come join WirelessNorth (and many other great speakers) at the this year’s FITC Mobile event in Toronto. WirelessNorth will be on the stage Monday, leading a discussion on the state of wireless in Canada.

And what an interesting state it is too. In just a few short years this country has gone from offering some of the worst levels of devices/services in global market at far and away the worst prices to… on par with the best wireless services (iPhones! Androids! all sorts of blackberries! Fast HSPA! Rocket sticks galore!) in the world… at on par with the highest pricing in the world. But even more change is coming fast, new competition on HSPA, new competition from new entrants, and even another spectrum auction on the horizon.

Come out to hear us talk about our predictions for the years ahead and contribute to the conversation.

Oh and there’s also the whole rest of the conference program. Moar:

UPDATE: Thanks to Shawn Pucknell and the crew at FITC, we are happy to pass on a discount code for readers of WirelessNorth.ca just use the code “WirelessNorth” when registering.

wind-pageGlobalive has announced today that they are rebranding as Windmobile ( windmobile.ca ). This is, sort of, some good news, mostly because they are not calling themselves “yak mobile”. Not calling themselves yak mobile lends one to believe they may be aiming a little higher than just building a business on low cost talk rates. That being said, the announcement comes with word that Wind mobile be offering mobile services as specific as: “dialogue”, “simplicity”, “control” and “value”. Sounds lovely. Oh, and they’ll be launching “late 2009″ but more so in 2010.

As of today you can find more info at: Windmobile.ca

ps. they are also hiring like crazy, in case you know wireless and need a job

Listen, Telus is launching their GSM 4G (Yes, that’s right, 4G not 3G) network in late September 2009. Most new Telus phone are already GSM compatable, but not active. In September 2009 all phone, will be accepting a Telus Sim Card. Meaning you can buy any unlocked phone from eBay (etc.) and use it with Telus. Also, to Stewart Marshall, Telus, as per most cell phone companies, does not buy out contracts from other companies. Also, Telus will not be waiting the usual 6months time to offer a phone that Rogers or Fido offered earlier, but quite the opposite.
