Listen, Telus is launching their GSM 4G (Yes, that’s right, 4G not 3G) network in late September 2009. Most new Telus phone are already GSM compatable, but not active. In September 2009 all phone, will be accepting a Telus Sim Card. Meaning you can buy any unlocked phone from eBay (etc.) and use it with Telus. Also, to Stewart Marshall, Telus, as per most cell phone companies, does not buy out contracts from other companies. Also, Telus will not be waiting the usual 6months time to offer a phone that Rogers or Fido offered earlier, but quite the opposite.

There isn't even an official 4G standard yet. And Telus has already announced that they're launching HSPA (a 3G or 3.5G service). Yes, some Telus phones have HSPA, but they're at the wrong frequencies. The 2100Mhz UMTS frequencies in some Telus phones is used for roaming in Europe. Here in Canada, 2100Mhz frequencies are not used for mobiles. Telus' new HSPA network will operate on 850Mhz and 1900Mhz frequencies. And it will not support 2G GSM frequencies (that means no EDGE, no GPRS). Yes, Bell and Telus share a network, so they will be both launching HSPA (though perhaps not at the same time).

Telus AND Bell are planning on releasing their new shared HSPA "3G" network on September 1st (unoffically). Anyone who says they're releasing a "4G" network is full of it. 4G technology doesn't exist yet. The closest thing to 4G available right now is WiMax. Bell has a product they're marketing as WiMax, which is actually not WiMax and is also available from Rogers Wireless since the two companies share the network, that's been around for years but is strickly a data only service.

if Telus has the 4G network in Sept, why not Bell, too? they are building a network together, right?

I'm sorry, but one of the requirements of having the word "awesome" in your name should be the ability to use plural.

How come Telus *would* launch a 4G network while there is no LTE network world wide yet?

I would rather classify this as 3.75G (HSPA+, between 14mbps and 42mbps) which is not 4G yet.

If Telus comes in before the end of the September with a splashy launch, Fido/Rogers may have to continue, or better, its iPhone launch special.
